Humans fear that their daily activities may be limiting the future use of resources. Pesticide use and drift can affect air quality; pesticides in the food chain can threaten wildlife populations; and soil may no longer be suitable for optimal crop production. Pesticides are now recognized to be non-point sources of water pollution. As a result, pesticide practices are being watched closely. As pesticide applicators, it is important to do your job carefully by both controlling pest populations and at the same time protecting the environment from the potential adverse effects of pesticide use.

Student completing this module will:

  • Understand the dangers of pesticides in the environment and what causes them.
  • Be familiar with how pesticides pollute groundwater and what steps can be taken to prevent it.
  • Understand how pesticides persist in the environment.

Successful completion of this module will earn New York State certified applicators 1 Core recertification credit.

*If you are certified in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, or West Virginia, check the appropriate state-specific credit information page under the "Store Menu" to confirm approval and recertification credit values.

*Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont have approved all DLC courses and awards the same credits as New York.
